A handsome antique English made classical style gentleman's signet ring in rich 15ct yellow gold which thanks to the lovely clear hallmark for Birmingham can be dated to 1922. A central soft oval plaque of Sardonyx (which could be carved intaglio style with a crest or initials to reveal the darker russet background colour to the stone) is held between scrolled ornamental bezel and a fabulous design which carries around the whole shank. Rings such as this are scarce nowadays and hold such a cachet being in ancient times a symbol of status and prestige.
A heavyweight piece, this ring weighs a nicely substantial 12 grams, and the ring size, an 'R' or '9.5' it may be possible to adjust a wee bit for fit.
